This position is in the preclinical development function and will work on our research site in San Diego, CA. The candidate should have solid training and/or broad experiences in oncology. The candidate will work independently or lead a team to advance preclinical lead molecules into clinical development. In addition, the candidate is expected to be skillful of integrating data from various functions into self-explanatory presentations and to be articulate in explaining data to internal team and external collaborators.

The candidate must be a team player and is expected to work with other scientific staff on discovery projects. This person must be willing to collaborate and communicate with other team members within the company.

  • The candidate should have prior scientific background in biotech or related areas with good understanding of the drug discovery process in general and direct exposure to preclinical development in particular.
  • Leadership skills in managing internal and external projects are required. This person is expected to directly work with the company CSO to monitor project progression and supervise project execution.
  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience and skillset.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Act as a liaison between the Discovery group and the Clinical group to ensure seamless transition of programs from research to clinical stage.
  2. Interpret experimental data and generate study reports.
  3. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality results.
  4. Coordinate with external collaborators as a scientific leader.
  5. Present posters and/or give oral presentations in internal meetings and external scientific conferences.

Qualifications:

  1. MD or PhD degree in a field of biological sciences.
  2. Prior experience in and/or exposure to translational sciences including articulating the scientific mechanism of a lead molecule to a clinical audience, handling IND-enabling studies, understanding biomarker concepts and strategies, and coordinating with clinical scientists in planning clinical trial designs.
  3. Ability to interact and work with external partners (consultants and CROs) in efforts for IND filing.
  4. 2-5 years of translational science experience after post-doc training with demonstrated productivity.
  5. Experience in management skills is preferred.
  6. Good oral and written communication skills are required.
